Announcing New Editions of Social Studies Alive!

At TCI we are thrilled to announce the new editions of Social Studies Alive! for grades K-5. The new editions will be available spring 2009. We've highlighted some of the new features of Social Studies Alive! below.
The Lesson Guides include language arts objectives for each chapter and suggestions at point of use for vocabulary development, reading strategies, writing, listening and speaking.
The Student Editions begin each chapter with an Essential Question that focuses student learning on key concepts. Rounding out each chapter is a new high-interest "Reading Further" section that motivates students and deepens content understanding.
Interactive Student Notebooks provide opportunities to reinforce content and build writing and critical thinking skills with Preview, Reading Notes, and Processing pages. A new "Reading Further" page adds even more writing practice.
We've added some brand new components, one of which is Solutions for Effective Instruction. This new resource showcases a rich collection of classroom-tested strategies to help teachers: integrate reading/language arts into social studies, differentiate instruction, and build social studies/critical thinking skills.
We've also added a brand new technology solution to the classroom: TeachTCI (for teachers) and LearnTCI (for students). Make sure you read the December edition of TCI eNews for the breaking news on this exciting resource for teachers and students. Or if you absolutely can't wait to find out more, meet us at NCSS for a sneak peek.
Bert's Blog: Blending Social Studies and Language Arts
In his latest blog, Bert Bower, TCI's CEO and founder, reflects upon how language arts and social studies can be naturally woven together.
Learn about Bert's past experiences and join in the discussion. Bert asks, "How have you blended social studies and language arts with your students?"
Discussion Groups: Recommended Reading for Educators
As teachers, we often give "extra credit" assignments to our students to further their learning. Every once in awhile we should take on our own "extra credit" to further our learning. In the spirit of learning, our discussion group moderators have put together some suggested "extra credit" readings. Check out their recommendations and post your own.
