Population Density and Life in the Northeast
Lesson 5:
The following sites will allow students to examine additional topics about the urban Northeast.

The Big Dig - Boston's Central Artery Tunnel project is the largest and most complex highway project in America. Students can see photos of urban transportation construction, look at maps and statistics concerning the project, learn about environmental concerns, and find out additional dirt on the dig.

Nyc.gov - New York City's official website provides a wealth of information about the Big Apple. The City Life section has links for entertainment, sports and cultural events, New York City history, and a photo gallery of the city. For additional information on the transportation system in New York City, students can also visit nycsubway.org.

For information about Baltimore, students can visit the official city website, which provides basic information on many subjects. The National Aquarium website has on-line exhibits and interactive games, along with factual information about the species at the aquarium.

Philadelphia has an expansive presence on the Web, and students should visit philly.com, the home page of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The site has a kids' section along with news, tourism information, and various resources regarding the City of Brotherly Love.

For Washington, D.C., information, students and teachers can visit the homepage of Washington, D.C., or the official tourism website of the nation's capital.

Quick facts about cities and states can also be found at the U.S. Census Bureau website, which also has a Kids' Corner for students.

The rural states of Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire offer a contrast to the megalopolis of Boswash.
