A Boat and Bus Tour of the Southeast
Lesson 6:
After taking their bus and boat tour, teachers and students may want to visit these sites for additional information and enrichment.

The Colonial National Historical Park - The official website of the Original Settlement contains some additional information about the first English settlement in the United States. Jamestown Fact Sheets provides short summaries of various topics concerning Jamestown. The reading level of the text at these sites will be challenging for many students.

The Mississippi River Home Page - Greatriver.com offers this site about America's Great River Road. The site has information about travel on the river, the heritage of the Mississippi, and the natural history of the great waterway.

The National Civil Rights Museum - The website of the Memphis museum offers a great deal of information about the Civil Rights movement, including an interactive tour of the museum's exhibits.

Can the Everglades Survive? - The National Park Service asks this key question on the Everglades National Park website. The site contains links about visiting the park, the Everglades ecosystem, educational resources, and current events.

The John F. Kennedy Space Center website is loaded with information. Students and teachers can find updates on the space shuttle missions, take an on-line tour of the space complex, and learn about the history of NASA. Don’t miss NASA’s For Students page.

The Center for Virtual Appalachia is using the Internet to describe the people and land of Appalachia. Teachers can use the site for additional information about the region, including politics, culture, and statistics, while students might want to take the photo tour of Appalachia.

Music has played an important part in Memphis history, and a few websites can help students and teachers learn about and listen to the sounds of Memphis. Memphis Celebrates 50 Years of Soul highlights one area of Memphis's musical heritage with background on the city's soul scene, biographies of artists, and an interactive timeline. The Memphis Rock n' Soul Museum has a video overview of music in Memphis as well as links to additional sites. Finally, how can anyone visit Memphis without learning about Elvis Presley and touring his home at Graceland?.

New Orleans French Quarter - This commercial site brings the excitement of the French Quarter to your computer with photos, video, and a walking tour of the famous district.

New Orleans Online, is the official tourism web site for the City of New Orleans.

The International Petroleum Museum and Exposition - The museum's purpose is to provide information and educational opportunities concerning the offshore petroleum industry. The website features a photo history of Mr. Charlie, an offshore oil rig, as well as information about the basics of oil and the oil industry.
